Comparison

EnsoLinks vs OneTab

Accurate as of .

OneTab gathers open tabs into groups you can search and restore. EnsoLinks gives you a bookmark library alongside saved browser windows and live tabs, with one search across them. Both help clear a crowded browser; what you want to keep beside those tabs is the useful distinction.

Which fits your work?

Stay with OneTab if sending a window into a saved list is the workflow you want. Its current version includes folders, search, a quick list, stars and tasks; its site also advertises notes. Optional paid Backup & Sync adds encrypted access across devices. EnsoLinks does not offer an equivalent cloud backup service.132

EnsoLinks fits when saved tabs become a longer-lived reference library. Add notes and tags to bookmarks, put collections inside other collections, and find that material alongside the tabs still open in Chrome. Saved windows remain separate from the pages you decide to keep.

The differences that matter

EnsoLinks and OneTab, compared by workflow
Your workEnsoLinksOneTab
What you keep EnsoLinks

Library holds bookmarks and nested collections. Workspace holds live tabs and saved sessions. You can save one session tab to Library or promote a session into a collection.

OneTab

Gather tabs into saved groups, organize them into folders, and restore one tab or the group. Its quick list, stars and tasks give saved links more structure than a simple flat list. OneTab also advertises notes; the reviewed docs do not establish their exact scope or whether note text is searchable.13

Finding something again EnsoLinks

Search bookmarks, sessions and live tabs together. Bookmark matching includes manual tags, notes, descriptions and collection paths. Open-tab matching uses titles and URLs. Use quoted phrases, field queries such as tag:research or notes:recall, and item-type filters to narrow the search. Results can highlight matching query text and show which bookmark field matched.

OneTab

Search saved tabs from its search bar or from the browser address bar. Its Help page does not list every field the search indexes.1

Returning to a window EnsoLinks

Native sessions can restore window grouping, tab order, pinned tabs and Chrome tab groups where Chrome allows it. Restoring opens new windows; repeating it can create duplicates.

OneTab

Restore saved tabs individually or together. A OneTab import into EnsoLinks becomes Library bookmarks, not a session with the original window state.1

Sync and backup EnsoLinks

Optional Chrome sync handles supported URLs, titles and folders. Notes, tags and saved sessions stay in EnsoLinks on this device. A manual JSON export covers Library bookmarks and saved Workspace sessions. Browser recovery uses one local snapshot while enabled; it is not a full backup.

OneTab

Optional paid Backup & Sync encrypts saved tabs and settings before upload and connects the browser profiles you choose. OneTab documents offline local access, with changes syncing when you're online again.2

Cost and privacy EnsoLinks

Free to install, with no EnsoLinks account. The extension sends no telemetry.

OneTab

Ordinary local use is separate from its paid sync subscription. Its site says sharing a list as a web page transmits that list; enabling Backup & Sync adds encrypted server storage. Choose the mode that suits your needs.32

Add another way to remember a page

A bookmarked page can carry a note about why you kept it. In this example, recall finds words in that note and the result identifies the matched field. You do not have to remember the page's title.

The import path

Bring your OneTab links

OneTab links become Library bookmarks and collections in EnsoLinks. Use its HTML export to retain top-level group names, link titles and order; displayed dates transfer when EnsoLinks can read their format. Nested group names flatten into the parent collection. OneTab's current HTML export omits notes. Tasks, stars, sync settings and the original window's session details do not transfer through this route.13

  1. In OneTab, open the folder's More… menu and choose Save as HTML file. For a text export, open Export / Import URLs, choose the location to export, and save the exported URL | title list as a .txt file, keeping blank lines between groups. Text imports lose group names and dates; a plain list with one supported URL per line also works. Keep the original export.

  2. Install EnsoLinks. Open Settings → Data → Import data, choose OneTab and select the matching HTML or text file.

  3. Check the preview's destination, counts and warnings. These items belong in Library. Skip duplicates starts selected for Library imports.

  4. Open an imported collection. Check a few links and the grouping you expected, then search for a known page. Add a note or tag if you want another way to find it.

The current export formats were checked in OneTab 2.24's official package. Check the preview for your file rather than assuming every field transfers. Use the Import guide (opens in a new tab) if a file is rejected.
