Comparison

EnsoLinks vs Toby

Accurate as of .

Toby organizes saved work around an account you can use across devices. EnsoLinks keeps bookmarks, saved browser windows and open tabs together in your Chrome profile, without an EnsoLinks account. The choice starts with where you want to work.

Which fits your work?

Toby makes sense if you share spaces with other people, want access from another device, or prefer keeping its side panel beside the page you're reading. Toby 2.0 also has a richer notes editor. Those are useful reasons to stay.17

Choose EnsoLinks if you want to build a personal bookmark library on your device and search it alongside saved windows and live tabs. It is free to use and has no count cap on saved bookmarks or sessions; Toby's free plan allows 60 saved tabs. Add a note or tag to a saved page; later, search for that fragment. EnsoLinks can show which field matched. There is no shared team workspace or EnsoLinks cloud sync.

The differences that matter

EnsoLinks and Toby, compared by workflow
Your workEnsoLinksToby
How you organize work EnsoLinks

Keep bookmarks in nested Library collections. Save working windows as Workspace sessions, then keep individual pages or promote a session into Library.

Toby

Organize tabs into collections and spaces within a workspace. Its current release adds a persistent browser side panel and supports shared spaces.1

What you can search EnsoLinks

Search bookmarks, saved sessions and open tabs. Saved bookmarks can match tags, notes, descriptions and collection paths; live tabs match titles and URLs. Quoted phrases, field queries such as tag:research or notes:recall, and item-type filters are included free. Results can highlight matching query text and show which bookmark field matched.

Toby

Its Help Center lists tags, collections, spaces, open tabs, To/Links and history as search targets. Advanced search is a paid feature. The reviewed docs do not specify whether note bodies or page text are indexed.2

Notes and page content EnsoLinks

Notes and tags belong to saved bookmarks. You can also enable capture of page headings and short text snippets; that setting starts off. This is keyword search, not AI search.

Toby

Collection notes support formatted text, links, lists and checklists. Notes and tags are also available.1

Accounts and access EnsoLinks

No EnsoLinks account is required. Optional Chrome bookmark sync uses your own Google account for supported URLs, titles and folders. Notes, tags and saved sessions stay in EnsoLinks on this device.

Toby

Current supported use requires a Toby account. Account access and Toby Web let you reach saved work on other devices. EnsoLinks does not replace that service.47

Cost EnsoLinks

Free to use. EnsoLinks doesn't cap how many bookmarks or sessions you save; capacity depends on your browser's available storage. No EnsoLinks account is needed.

Toby

The free Starter plan allows 60 saved tabs. If you exceed the limit, existing tabs remain accessible, but you must reduce the count or upgrade to add more.3

EnsoLinks search

Find a page by the note you saved

In this EnsoLinks example, the query recall finds a saved bookmark through its note. The result labels the matched field, so the connection is visible. You can also search manual tags and collection paths.

The import path

Bring your Toby collections

Use a Toby JSON export. Supported collections become Library collections; available saved titles, card notes and labels carry over where the importer can represent them. Favicons do not transfer through the current Toby importer. A Toby workspace is not transferred as a shared workspace, and a formatted collection note is not promised to become a bookmark note.56

  1. In Toby, export the collections you want to bring across. The Help Center documents a collection menu for selected work and Account Settings → Export Data for all data. Choose JSON; Toby documents it as the format that retains notes and tags.

  2. Install EnsoLinks and open Settings → Data → Import data. Choose Toby and select your JSON file.

  3. Read the preview. Check the collections, bookmark counts and warnings before importing. Leave Skip duplicates selected unless you want repeated Library URLs.

  4. Open one imported collection and check a title, note and tag you expected to keep. Search for a distinctive word from an imported page.

Keep your Toby export until you've checked the result. Toby 2.0 brings settings into one place, so the menu names in older Help articles may differ from your version. The Import guide (opens in a new tab) explains warnings and completion counts.

A first task

Try it with one collection

Bring a small export first. Check what arrived, then decide whether to move the rest.
