Comparison
EnsoLinks vs Session Buddy
Accurate as of .
Links to other pages open in a new tab.
Session Buddy keeps a history of browser sessions and offers tools for backing them up. EnsoLinks combines saved windows with a personal bookmark library. Add notes and tags to the pages you keep, then use them to find a reference long after you've closed its original window.
Which fits your work?
If a browsable history of previous sessions and a dedicated backup-and-restore workflow are your priorities, Session Buddy is the stronger fit. It already searches open tabs, collections and tab history. You do not need an account for its current local product.35
Choose EnsoLinks when you want to keep selected pages beyond the session they came from. A bookmark can hold your note, manual tags and a description, inside a nested collection. Search can find those fields and show which one matched. EnsoLinks recovery is one rolling snapshot, not Session Buddy's history or backup system.
The details
The differences that matter
| Your work | EnsoLinks | Session Buddy |
|---|---|---|
| Saved sessions and kept pages | EnsoLinks Save windows as Workspace sessions. Keep one page in Library, or promote a session to a Library collection when it becomes reference material. | Session Buddy Organize links into saved collections and return to earlier browser sessions through History. Collections and History have distinct roles in export and backup.2 |
| What search covers | EnsoLinks Search bookmarks, sessions and live tabs together, or filter by item type. Use quoted phrases and queries such as | Session Buddy Search open tabs, collections and tab history, with query syntax, item-type filters and highlighted matches. Its roadmap lists labels and descriptions as future work; the reviewed docs do not fully specify its current indexed fields.6 |
| Recovery and backup | EnsoLinks While browser recovery is enabled, one local snapshot can offer tabs Chrome did not restore. It excludes incognito tabs. JSON export is a manual data export, not a complete extension backup. | Session Buddy Backup/Restore covers collections and History. It also keeps an automatic local backup; its reliability guide says recent changes can lag by up to 24 hours. It recommends additional backup precautions rather than promising immunity to browser data loss.34 |
| Accounts and measurements | EnsoLinks No EnsoLinks account. The extension sends no telemetry. | Session Buddy Collections, History and settings stay on device in the current local product. Anonymous usage metrics are on by default and can be disabled in Settings. Its policy says collection contents, URLs, history and search queries are excluded from those metrics.5 |
| What an import means | EnsoLinks A supported Session Buddy JSON export creates Workspace sessions. Library stays unchanged. A saved session's links do not automatically gain bookmark notes, tags or page-content search. | Session Buddy Regular Export contains collections, not History. Its separate Backup file includes History and is intended for Session Buddy's own Restore workflow. EnsoLinks does not import that backup.23 |

Keep the useful page, then add your context
After saving a session page to Library, give it a note or a tag. The EnsoLinks example shows recall matching a saved note. Importing a Session Buddy collection alone does not create this bookmark or its metadata.

The import path
Bring your saved collections
Use saved-collections JSON, not a History or Backup/Restore file. The imported collections become restorable Workspace sessions. History and full backups do not transfer. Keep a Session Buddy backup if that history matters to you.23
In Session Buddy, open the gear menu and choose Export. Select all collections or just the ones you want, choose JSON, and save the file.
Install EnsoLinks. Open Settings → Data → Import data, choose Session Buddy, and select the saved-collections JSON file.
Check the preview: Workspace is the destination and Library stays unchanged. Read warnings before importing. Identical saved sessions are skipped automatically; duplicate handling is not the same as a Library import.
Open one imported session and check its tabs before restoring. To keep a page as reference material, save it to Library; then add a note or tag and try a search.
The Import guide (opens in a new tab) explains file limits and warnings. The Collections & Library guide (opens in a new tab) explains what you can do with a page once you've kept it.

A first task
Keep one page beyond the session
Bring a small saved collection, inspect it in Workspace, then save a useful page to Library. That is the workflow to try before moving more.
