Find saved pages and open tabs
EnsoLinks uses local keyword matching. Search for a word or fragment from a title, URL, domain, Collection path, tag, note, description, or available page metadata. Results can also include live Open Tabs. Saved-page snippets and Chrome History search are more sensitive sources. Both are off by default and can be enabled separately under Settings → Search.
Open search and enter a keyword
- Open the EnsoLinks Workspace or toolbar popup.
- Press Command-K on Mac or Ctrl-K on Windows/Linux, or use the visible search control.
- Type a word or URL fragment you remember.
- If useful, narrow the results to Bookmarks, Sessions, Open tabs, or History.
- Choose a result to open it, activate its live tab, or show the saved item in Library when that action is offered.
Search matches characters and words in local fields. It does not interpret meaning, generate summaries, or create tags for you.
Know which saved-page fields are searched
Standard local keyword search can use:
- page title;
- full URL, domain, and URL path;
- Library Collection or folder path;
- manual tags;
- notes;
- saved description and page keywords when available;
- page headings and visible-text snippet only when optional saved-page snippets are enabled.
Result details can identify a matched URL, bookmark path, tag, note, description, keyword, heading, or page text. Not every page provides every field.
Example: A search for grid may match a title, a css-grid URL path, a manual tag, a note, or an enabled page snippet. The result's match reason helps explain why it appeared.
Find a live Open Tab
Open-tab results are queried from Chrome while you search. EnsoLinks matches their current titles and URLs.
Choose an Open Tab result to activate that existing tab rather than opening a saved Library copy. If the tab closes or navigates, its search result changes with the live Chrome state.
Include saved-page snippets
Saved-page snippets can find words that are not present in a title, URL, tag, note, or description.
To enable them:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Search.
- Turn on Include saved-page snippets in local search.
When this is on, an explicit save or inspect action can store page headings and a short visible-text snippet in the local EnsoLinks database. The content stays on this device.
Include Chrome History
Chrome History search is a separate, optional live source.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Search.
- Turn on Include Chrome History in search.
- Approve Chrome's optional History permission request.
After approval, EnsoLinks asks Chrome for History results that match the current query. It uses those results for the current search and does not persist, cache, or add them to the EnsoLinks index. History results are not included in export or Chrome bookmark sync.
Turning the setting off disables the source. EnsoLinks requests the history permission only when you explicitly enable History search.
Keep the two optional sources distinct
| Source | Default | Where the data comes from | What EnsoLinks retains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saved-page snippets | Off | Headings and short visible text from a page you explicitly save or inspect | A local indexed copy that may contain signed-in text |
| Chrome History | Off | A live Chrome History query for the current search | Nothing: results are never persisted or indexed by EnsoLinks |
If a result is missing
- Try a title word, domain, or URL fragment instead of a broad concept.
- Check the active result filter; Open tabs and History are separate sources.
- For a word that appears only in page body text, confirm that saved-page snippets were enabled when the page metadata was captured.
- For History, confirm both the setting and Chrome's optional permission are enabled.
- If an import just finished, allow the local index to finish building. You can still search saved pages while the index finishes building, though search may be slower.
